Since high school I wanted to start some type of group or company geared towards plus size women but I had no idea how to. Earlier this year I was laid off of my job and decided to create an organization called Elite Plus.

It is a non profit organization geared towards the empowerment of plus size women and young girls in the community. I really believe in what I’m doing and its not a paying job but I no it will help change lives and in the long run I as well as the women of Elite Plus will reap the rewards.

Although I always put on a happy face I was struggling with my very own body image issues, and issues within my home that no one knew about. Looking to the television and magazines, and the music industry surely was not helping because I saw the same 5 faces to represent the “plus size” women.

They are all beautiful and have worked hard to be where they are, but I felt like there were so many other full figured women in communities all over that were doing great things as well, but no one would never find out who they were. As I graduated out of high school I was still the “go-to” girl (even my mom asked me for advice) so I decided to start an organization for the young and the old to come together (sort of like a sisterhood) to get solutions to daily problems and teach (as well as learn) how to channel the negative energy into positive aspects of life.

To me size acceptance is embracing the curves that were God given that has created whatever size you may be from 2 to 22 to 32. It’s really embodying what true beauty is according to YOU and never allowing someone else to shun you from the world because you may shop in a different area of the store then they do.

Being a member of Elite Plus offers the opportunity for women and young ladies who are confident in their own skin and fully understand what self-love is to reach out to other women who are struggling with those concepts of self worth and self esteem. So on the flip side being a member of Elite Plus also offers those women who are looking for outlets and a place to feel as if they belong and accepted without being judged or criticized. We celebrate who we are and who we are becoming.
