United States- Because 50% of teenage girls in the United States are either already plus sized, or on the verge of becoming plus sized, Plus Teen USA acknowledged the need for a pageant and self-esteem building conference exclusively for plus size teens; its mission- to embrace, celebrate, empower, and transform plus teens across America.

The project works to help beautiful young ladies not get caught up in the lie that they are not worthy of the acceptance, recognition, celebration, and inspiration in which their thinner counterparts enjoy, but that they, too, deserve self-love, life fulfillment, and a pageant experience to express their own unique beauty.

The Plus Teen USA pageant, which promotes healthy living, gives young ladies an opportunity to collaborate with like minded youth, create lasting friendships, and to have a place in the beauty and fashion industry. The contestant crowned Plus Teen USA will be selected among young ladies ages 13 – 19, who wear a size 12 and above.

Plus Teen USA 2009, America’s first pageant and conference exclusively for plus size teens, was held during the weekend of October 23-25 in the DFW Metroplex, and was attended by the Style Network’s “RUBY”, who mentored the contestants and encouraged them to live life now in the skin they’re in. Sharon Quinn, also known as “The Original Runway Diva” from all three seasons of Oxygen’s MoNique’s Fat Chance, was the featured speaker and modeling trainer. Lynae Tucker from Grand Rapids, South Dakota took the crown.

Responding to the growing need for plus teens to recognize their inner beauty while becoming confident from the inside, out, Jacqueline Lawrence, founder and CEO, launched four Regional Pageants, which will be held during the month of July, 2010 in the cities of Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York, along with the National Pageant and Conference, which will again be held in the DFW Metroplex in October.

Plus teens across America will walk away with a renewed sense of self esteem, self awareness, self image, self acceptance… SELF. Plus Teen Regional titleholders will earn their region’s crown, and one plus size beauty will walk away with the title of Plus Teen USA 2010, a beautiful crown, a minimum $500.00 scholarship, the opportunity to represent plus teens all over the nation, and numerous other fantastic prizes.

As many of you know I do a spotlight page for those Plus Size Diva’s that are well..awesome. LOL This month I have put up a new one. Her name is TroJah. One reason I picked her is that she has went a step further than just being a good role model and loving her curves.

With her organization she is helping the young and the old to come together (sort of like a sisterhood) to get solutions to daily problems and teach (as well as learn) how to channel the negative energy into positive aspects of life.

I just wanted to post a quick note about the Diva of the Month. I’ve had issues getting in touch with people once they make their submissions, so instead of a monthly plus size diva. I’ve changed it to a Spotlight.

I was out hunting for some good articles to stick up here, and found this one. It’s a tad bit long…but well worth the read!

Do you ever find yourself apologising for your size? It is a sad fact of life that many women do these days. We’ve become indoctrinated into thinking that big is bad and thin is beautiful, and that the emaciated waifs we see in the media have the perfect must have figure

Yet, history shows it’s actually big women that men find most attractive. The works of Renaissance masters like Botticelli and Rubens show that even the Medieval female was the object of immense fascination and scrutiny. Yet, the women immortalised on these ancient canvases little resemble the super slim celebrities of the modern age. Rather, Renaissance women are often depicted as gloriously full figured, with full bosoms, ample tummies and large bottoms.

Just wanted to share an article I found and though you all might like:

Pick any media source and what do you see? Super thin models who appear to eat a single bread crumb as their total caloric intake each day. This can be discouraging if you are a full figured woman. Don’t let it be! You can be just as beautiful as them.

Most of us women focus obsessively on our outfits because we believe a particular look will get across a point we are trying to make. A sexy black dress will show off our smoldering, seductive side. A correctly cut skirt suit will show off our professional side. As you well know, there seems to be a look for just about every occasion.

Make no mistake. The outfit you wear does go a long way to making a particular impression. That being said, there are two parts to the process. The second is how you carry yourself. Some call this attitude, but it is really about confidence.

A woman who feels sexy, will be sexy. It is as simple as that. Why? Attitude shows through in everything we do. It always has and it always will. Any piece of clothing is only as attractive as the woman wearing it. Attraction is all about attitude. Many women think attitude really only applies to men. It doesn’t. It applies to women just as much.

Picture in your mind a woman in a black cocktail dress. Is she sexy and the focus of men or not? The answer depends largely on her attitude which is conveyed by her body language. If she is “mousy” and passive, her body language will be in contrast to the attitude of the dress and she simply is not going to look good. If, on the other hand, she is confident, her body language will convey that and the dress will look great as an accessory to her overall beauty.

You are who you are. If you are plus size, you can do two things – lose weight or accept yourself. Even if you decide to lose weight, you still are going to be plus size for a bit and you still are going to want to look good. You can. It is all about being comfortable with yourself and confident. Any man would be lucky to have you. Don’t forget that. Also, don’t sabotage yourself by wearing outfits that are too small. Get clothes that fit or you will look like you are trying to hard.

Beauty is an equal opportunity thing. You don’t have to be a rail thin supermodel to have it. You can be plus size and just as beautiful. You just have to be confident and believe in yourself.

Ms. Platinum Plus International will represent all Full Figure Women of the World by setting a standard for Professionalism, Empowerment, Beauty, and of course Education. The winner of Ms. Platinum International will not only become a Positive Platform for all young women that have always dreamed of being a Princess, but will show the world that Curvaceous Women have a voice on all things happening in the world. The team will be focusing on giving back to our global communities as well as here in the United States. First using her title as a Spokes Model for issues such as Global Warming and Educating all Children on health and wellness.
