Vacation Epic Fail

So have you ever went on vacation in hopes of relaxing and rejuvenating only to have it all fall apart?

Let me tell you…after the last vacation I’m not sure I want another one. Every year we do a girls trip. I take my two little ones, and two sometimes three of my friends come with me. Just us girls.

This year we decided to do something different and we went to Williamsburg, VA. Lovely lovely place. We decided to travel on Sunday since we both work from home and are busy during the week. We get about 200 miles or so from the house when the transmission in the truck goes out. Mind you..this isn’t an old, beat up truck..It’s a 2006 with less than 30,000 miles on it.

So here we are trying to figure out what to do on Sunday in Georgia where everything is closed. So we started calling for a rental..couldn’t find one for less than $660 for the week. One way was $350….so I call a friend and ask to borrow their van. Which we had talked about previously using. (I have a car and we couldn’t all fit in it)

So my husband loads the van up on a roll back and brings it to us, and takes his truck back home to our dealership here in town. We get on down the road in the van.

Now the windows in the van aren’t supposed to be able to roll down because they were fixed not to since the regulator was broke. We get to the resort and pull up to the guard gate and without thinking I hit the window button…the window that isn’t supposed to go down…goes down. I am yelling No! No! No! too late…window all the way down and is not coming back up.

So now it’s Monday, Memorial Day in a historical part of VA…nothing open! I am now on the verge of tears…we drive around hoping to find something..nothing. So hubby calls and we are talking and I know there is something he wants to tell me…but he chooses not to and at this point I don’t want to hear it.

So later that night he tells me…on the way to the dealership on Monday, he was coming off the mountain and hydroplaned in MY car and wrecked my car…he hit the guardrail…I was like OMG you’ve got to be kidding me! No…sadly he wasn’t…

Tuesday morning I get up and go out to find somewhere to get the van window fixed. The dealership wants $500 to fix it. So I find a body shop type place, they offer to do it for $100. They were nice and took me back to the resort. The guy said he’d come get me when it was ready…so at 4:30 I call cause I haven’t heard anything..they are still working on it and want me to find a ride up to the shop.

I ask the front desk at the resort if someone can take me, they say no. So I ask how far it is as I didn’t pay any attention when I went that morning. The guy tells me probably a mile or mile and a half…I was oh ok…I can walk that…So I ask him the best way to get there since I am walking..he shows me on the map and I set out.

Well I soon run out of sidewalk and end up walking in ass deep grass on the side of the road…the road that has almost no businesses, or houses..nothing but trees and ass deep grass. Me…alone…I was pissed.

So I keep walking..it’s got to be nearly 100 degrees out and I am in flip flops in ass deep grass..and I keep walking..and walking..the whole time I am telling myself…don’t cry..don’t cry.

Finally I get to the shop. I am so fricken hot I can hardly talk, not to mention I feel like I could burst out in tears and what little water I had left in my body would be used up..lol

So I get the van, and I drive back the way I walked…it wasn’t 1 mile…it wasn’t 1.5 miles…it wasn’t 2 miles…It was damn near 3 miles!

I get back to the resort, go upstairs and turn the shower on…I sat there for I know at least an hour or so and just cried with the shower pouring over me. I had nickel size blisters on my feet from my stupid shoes…needless to say…the start to this relaxing vacation….was shot to hell…lol
